A new coronavirus (2019-nCoV) was recently detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China and is causing an outbreak of respiratory illness. This virus primarily affected China Mainland, and it is capable of spreading from person to person, the incubation period of the virus ranges from 2 to 14 days, symptoms include fever, coughing and breathing difficulties, and hospital treatment is needed.
This outbreak is an ongoing viral, as before in human history; we have already seen similar cases quite a few times.
In the year of 1720 there was The Great Plague of Marseille, which was the last of the significant European outbreaks of bubonic plague. The disease appeared in France killed approximately 100,000 people, 50,000 in the city of Marseille and during the next two years and another 50,000 to the north in surrounding provinces and towns.
By the year of 1820, exactly (1817–24), the first cholera pandemic appeared, began near the city of Calcutta (Kolkata – India) and spread throughout Southeast Asia to the Middle East, eastern Africa and the Mediterranean coast. While cholera had spread across India many times previously, this outbreak went further; it reached as far as China and the Mediterranean Sea before subsiding. Hundreds of thousands of people died as a result of this pandemic.
In 1920 the world was faced with the influenza pandemic. It would be the first of two pandemics to involve the H1N1 influenza virus, with the second being in 2009. Many historians claimed that the flu originated came from Spain, France or U.S.A. This Spanish Flu had a massive reach, infecting 500 million people around the world. The death toll worldwide was up to 100 million, making it one of the deadliest in human history.
Comparing to the past, today we have a different epidemic situation, we can describe it as minor and less sever, but despite that, China is leading a war against the coronavirus, the authorities did not hide the case, and on the contrary they exposed it to the Chinese citizen and to the international leaders and communities. After holding a special government meeting on the Lunar New Year, the Chinese President Xi Jinping made a warning speech about the spread of this deadly new virus and promised ramped up measures to contain the situation.
China quickly shared the genetic code for the virus with researchers around the world and the Chinese authorities organized for the citizens’ awareness campaigns in each province and region, explaining the virus, the symptoms and the precautions.
In order to win this epidemic war and stop the spread of the virus several cities were lockdown with tight control on borders and several flights (national and international) were cancelled. Yet it was the Chinese New Year holidays, but China’s manpower; workers, paramilitary police, officers and volunteers answered the call of duty showing patriotism and dedication and started applying the authority’s recommended measures.
The Chinese people have shown solidarity in many ways; for example, many business man and company owners made large donations, such as the Alibaba owner Jack Ma, donated 14 million dollars for the two Chinese government research organizations to develop corona virus vaccine
Indeed, other companies have done the same and shown solidarity with donations as telecom equipment and smartphone maker Huawei, e-commerce company Tencent, search engine Baidu, TikTok owner ByteDance and food delivery firm, Meituan- Dianping.
Differently, some people didn’t made donations in terms of money but made a priceless contribution devoting their efforts and putting their hearts and souls into this war against the virus, in particular the doctors, fully dedicated, working on clock on the front line risking and sacrificing their lives to save other people’s lives.
Many citizens volunteered to participate in many tasks, working along with official officers, protecting their cities and area, checking everyone who goes in or out, giving away free food, medical supplies, masks, gloves, sanitary and disinfectant products.
As we all know, China is considered a Tech-Giant, the technology is one of its advantages and it seen as an efficient way to control and to manage this kind of situations, in order to contain and prevent from this epidemic, we saw many officers using equipped drones with cameras and microphones to warn people and spread awareness. Also, robot was used in hospital to minimize the risk of the contamination providing services as collecting used equipment such masks and suits.
China has shown to the world the power of the heavy industry by building a special hospital to treat the infected patients with the coronavirus, just in 10 days!! There’s NO nation or country in the world could done such a thing in such short notice!! The Huoshenshan hospital took the joint effort of construction of utility workers and paramilitary police officer; "We've mobilized all the workers left in Wuhan to work in shifts to ensure round-the-clock construction," said Zhang Chongxi, manager of building group Wuhan Construction. It has a capacity of 1,000 beds spread over 25,000 square meters (270,000 square feet) and 1,400 military medics from the Chinese People's Liberation Army will staff the hospital which is equipped with water, electricity, internet and medical equipment, all ready for use.
Chinese President Xi Jinping met The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and discussed the battle against the virus and shared the latest information “data and biological material” of the outbreak to bring it under control.
Lately, China has already started a clinical trial to speedily test a drug for the novel coronavirus infection, the doctors are starting human trials for a Coronavirus treatment, we just cross fingers and hope for best to save our world from this epidemic.
In general, we can see China is taking sever measures and cooperating with the rest of the world in this fight against the coronavirus but also we can’t ignore the sacrifices of a conscious society that responded to the call.
As a country China sacrificed almost everything, human resources, wealth, assets, and materials: in the hospitals as in the construction sites people worked on clock without resting cancelling the family reunion for the new year and leaving it behind; business owners made many donations to support the government in this fight against the epidemic; indeed many manufactory kept their chain supply on clock to provide materials and medical supplies; plus many people (young-middle-old generations) volunteered provided help and assistance, also donated free masks , free supplies, goods, food and even free services as transport to anyone who’s in need, they even paid for it with their own money.
In this fight against the virus, the Chinese government cares more about the human life; the Chinese governments has only one mission which is serving and protecting the citizen whatever they are local or foreigner, taking down this epidemic and protect the rest of the world, in fact many African countries has shown solidarity, blessing the work of the Chinese government and encouraging the Chinese people.
Dear reader, can you see it? The real secret of the Chinese rise and prosperity? It’s not only the power or the economy, the technology and the industry, but this magnificent agreement and mutual understanding between the Chinese government and its people leaded to a full cooperation without any obstacles. As the government, the people responded to the call with every possible thing; wealth, health and even sacrifices, we still learn from China many lessons, and this time is about patriotism!
Hats off!!
Wuhan jiayou, China jiayou!!
